Free Dimensions (driving allowed without a permit)

Permits and their validity
Types of permits
- short-term permit:
– on a specific route one or two way (back and forth). - permanent permit:
– 30m x 3.65m x 4.1m – 48t,
– valid for 1 year,
– issued on condition that the official is provided with documents confirming his suitability, e.g. a contract with the client

- Short term permit – 3 months
- Permanent permit – 1 year

NO – after the permit expires, we must apply for a new one.

Necessary documents
- scans of registration certificates,
- Gutachten or Paragraph 70 when exceeding 40t,
- authorization from the lessor (if the vehicle is leased)
- over 50t (for 6 axles), 56t (for 7 axles), also a Danish qualification certificate is required

Civil escort of abnormal transport

There is a “mirror rule” in Denmark:
– If the load obstructs the driver’s view in the side mirrors, pilotage is required (from 2.85 m wide).
– Driving off the highway with e.g. 4m width requires 1 pilot at the front and, due to the mirror principle, an additional pilot at the rear of the vehicle.
Types of escort cars
In self-escort, the pilot vehicle must be yellow and, according to Danish law, have red and white markings on the front and back of the vehicle.
