The specific conditions for marking a transport in Sweden are included in each permit. Below are each of the labeling options that may appear in the guidelines.
Read on to find out about:
basic elements of correct labeling;
in what situations is it necessary to label the transport;
the exact dimensions of the required tables;
additional, required equipment in the vehicle;
the elements of the correct marking and equipment of the escort vehicle.
Before we describe each of the marking elements, we would like to remind you when, according to the regulations, transport in Sweden requires an appropriate “frame” and accompany:
WIDE TRANSPORT
261 – 310 cm – only marking required
311 – 450 cm – marking and civil escort
powyżej 450 cm – marking, civil escort and police escort or traffic director
LONG TRANSPORT
24 – 30 m – only marking required
30 – 35 m – marking and civil escort
powyżej 35 m – marking, civil escort and police escort or traffic director
MARKING mentioned above:
1. Warning signs for marking the width:
♦ recommended dimensions: 1280 x 410 mm
♦ yellow reflective background with a 55mm wide red fluorescent frame
♦ font: Tratex
♦ text color: black
♦ text size: 170/124 mm
2. Warning signs for marking the length:
♦ recommended dimensions: 1280 x 410 mm
♦ yellow reflective background with a 55mm wide red fluorescent frame
♦ font: Tratex
♦ text color: black
♦ text size: 170/124 mm
3. Marking the width at the front of the vehicle:
♦ dimensions: 200 x 700 mm
♦ white and red reflective stripes 100mm wide
4. Marking of the rear of the vehicle or of the load on the vehicle:
Below is a graphic of what it should look like in practice, based on oversize transport with a wide load.
At the front of the vehicle there must be:
♦ warning sign (in this case Bred Last). It is important that it is clearly visible. It must be placed under the lower edge of the windscreen so that the lower edge of the sign is no more than 2 meters above the road.
♦ a width marking (red and white stripes) must be placed on each side of the vehicle, as close as possible to the outer edge of the vehicle / load, so that they are clearly visible.
♦ two white lights ahead, located on the outer edge of the vehicle / cargo above the white and red width marking. The lamps must have a brightness range of 40 to 100 candela.
♦ two white reflectors.
At the rear of the vehicle must be:
♦ warning sign (in this case Bred Last), it is important that it is clearly visible
♦rectangular orange-red reflective plates, placed as close as possible to the outer edge of the vehicle / cargo (so that they are clearly visible).
♦ two red lights to the rear, located on the outer edge of the vehicle / cargo above orange and red reflective plates. The lamps must have a brightness range of 40 to 100 candela.
♦ two red reflectors.
!!! The width markings and warning signs must be lit when driving in dusk, dawn or dusk, and when weather or other road conditions so require.
!!! Additionally, the transport must be equipped with at least one amber / orange warning light.
!!! When driving during the day, turn on the flasher beacon only when the transport enters other lanes. It must always be switched on when driving in the dark if the width is more than 310 cm.
In practice, the labeling requirements in the permit are as follows:
Although in Swedish, but everything is described above and in color 🙂
We add the marking of the escort vehicle as a bonus.
In Sweden, assistance is possible with your own escort vehicle. We also remind you that the pilot must know at least English or, ideally, they should speak Swedish, and by the way, they must be able to communicate with the driver in a language that is understandable to both. In addition, it is required that he has a category B and C driving license.
♦ A vehicle used for civil escort may be a car or a truck with a total weight of up to 4.5 tons.
♦ Equipped with warning signs (VARNING) which are clearly visible from the front and rear. The plates must be placed higher than the top of the windscreen.
♦ recommended dimensions: 1280 x 410 mm
♦ yellow reflective background with a 55mm wide red fluorescent frame
♦ font: Tratex
♦ text color: black
♦ text size: 170/124 mm
!!! Other equipment:
- at least one amber / orange warning light. When driving during the day, turn on the rooster only when the transport enters other lanes. It must always be turned on when driving in the dark.
- radio communication (CB radio) between the driver and the co-driver, a word of advice – communication on the phone will be insufficient 😉
We hope that with this article we have significantly approximated the legal status in Sweden, thanks to which the risk of receiving a fine for incorrect vehicle marking has reduced 🙂
You don’t know a company that produces such boards and signs?
Look no further, you’ve come to the right place. Feel free to contact the oversize transport department, which will evaluate the marking for the needs of your transport.
