Buongiorno! To make the wait for Italian permits more pleasant, please read how to prepare the marking of the vehicles to meet the requirements of this sunny, southern country🙂. We will have plenty of time for this, because officials are not in a hurry to issue the permits…
Basic equipment
All oversized vehicles must have at least one working yellow or orange beacon.
a) oversized vehicles with an exceeded length (16,5 m for a truck with a semi-trailer and 18,75 m for a lorry with a trailer) must additionally have:
– two panels, one front and one rear, with a minimum area of 900 cm2 and a height of 15 cm each, in yellow with the words “TRASPORTO ECCEZIONALE”, with black letters 10 cm high,
– two side panels, one on each side, with a minimum area of 900 cm2 and a height of 5 cm each, in yellow; positioned so that each half of the panels corresponds to half the length of the vehicle. These panels replace the orange reflectors.
b) oversize vehicles with exceeded width (2,55m):
Four reflective panels (two front, two rear) with red and white stripes directed at an angle of 45° and 10 cm wide, with a minimum area of 1800 cm2 and a height of 30 cm each; placed with the longest side in a vertical position and with the outer edge coinciding with the point of the maximum width of the vehicle/load.
!!! The panels referred to in points (a) and (b) may be replaced by reflective foils or paints of the same dimensions and visibility applied directly to the vehicle structure.
c) when the goods are loaded with the so-called “overhang”
Reflective board measuring 50cm x 50cm, used whenever the load protrudes from the back, even slightly.
Indicates indivisible loads that protrude from the rear of the vehicle – no more than 3/10 of the length of the vehicle.
!!! If the load extends across the full width of the rear of the vehicle, there must be two panels (placed transversely at both ends of the load). They can be placed on broken down vehicles when being towed and the hazard lights are inoperative.
The vehicle is ready 💪🏻, in the next article we will tell you how to prepare the driver to drive in Italy with oversized cargo.
